9 Memories/Things I Love from 9 Years of Marriage

Today is Dave’s and my nine year wedding anniversary. HOLY MOLY. Crazy to think nine years have flown by and that I’ve had this blog since even before then! We don’t do anything crazy for anniversaries – maybe next year since that’s the big 1-0, but I thought it would be nice to go back and share some of the great memories and things I love from marriage so far.

We’ve traveled a LOT.

From a cruise and Costa Rica before we were married to our European honeymoon, Greece, Disney, Breckenridge, Mont-Tremblant and so many more – we get around. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We somehow end up in the craziest experiences.

Like – being in Costa Rica and getting caught in the middle of a town on strike! Or taking a cruise excursion to bike through the jungle which wound up meaning that we biked on a dirt road behind the bus carrying the rest of the passengers to our destination. Or faking sunstroke so I wouldn’t have to sit through a timeshare spiel in the Dominican Republic. I know I’m forgetting some!

There’s no one else that gets me like you do.

You’ve come to understand my anxiety and you empower me when I need it and just hold me or comfort me at other times.

We made a Sadie.

And like any good story involving us, it was full of twists and turns! She loves to comment that she stole your birthday, and people love hearing how my water broke in Grand Central Station and that you were still a bit tipsy from your own birthday celebration when she was born!

Your marriage proposal was perfect.

Who else gets to get engaged on the Brooklyn Bridge? And have a note taped to the bridge for them? AND have a photographer randomly see them and follow them so now we have pictures of the moment for forever?

It was the best memory, and I love that you listened when I said all I wanted in an engagement was for it to happen “where people could see it and clap.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m happiest sitting on the couch with you.

While we’ve had a lot of adventures, I’m fine with being a homebody. Most nights are spent sitting on the couch with you, watching TV and just hanging out. And those nights are the best. I can be myself with you.

We do so many fun things!

Whether it’s on vacation where you support my need to hug a dolphin (squee!) or at home we also have so much fun in other ways – like seeing Broadway shows, going Geocaching, adventuring around Long Island, or even doing weird things like going to Dead Horse Bay. You rarely turn down an idea of mine and I love you all the more for it.

You appreciate the small things.

I’ve taken to decorating the house for holidays big and small and you never fail to take a moment and check everything out and compliment the decor. When I cook dinner you’re thrilled (because you do most of the cooking) and you appreciate the time I take to set things up for you and Sadie when I go on work trips.

9 years seems like nothing when you know it’s just the beginning.

We have so many more years of adventuring, couch sitting and loving ahead of us. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days with you, no matter what we do or where we are.

Happy 9 year anniversary!
