Listening, Reading, Watching 3

This is a monthly feature I’m starting where I share the things that have captured my attention – podcasts, music, TV shows or movies, books, etc.

Listening, Reading, Watching | Perks of Being a JAP |

This month I’m Listening To:

Weezer Teal Album | Perks of Being a JAP |

The Weezer Teal Album. Back during the summer Weezer released a cover of Africa by Toto and it was amazing and went kinda viral. They realized how popular it was and jumped on the wave to record an entire album of covers!

I LOVE this album. I think they’re all amazing covers (not SUPER into the Billie Jean cover though) but I am most obsessed with their cover of Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

(And if you haven’t watched the SNL skit about Weezer you’re missing out – it’s hysterical! Linked here.)

I’m Reading:

Lonely Planet's Where to go When | Perks of Being a JAP |

Actually, Dave is reading Lonely Planet’s Where to Go When.

This was Dave’s (early) Valentine’s Day present! Since he had given me flowers early I asked if he wanted his gift early and then really dind’t give him a choice and dropped it on him anyway haha.

This book is SO COOL. It literally helps you plan vacations based on what’s going on there each month of the year – weather, popularity, activities, if you’re looking to see or do certain things. It’s amazing. I saw it on Lauren’s Prime Purchases post and KNEW I had to have it for Dave. HE. LOVED. IT. Thought it was the coolest thing and immediately started pouring through it.

And the best part? It’s under $10! I thought for that price it would be a small paperback but its a pretty large, coffee table style book! Such a great value for a fantastic gift.

I’m Watching:

Brooklyn Nine-Nine | Perks of Being a JAP |

I’m so late to the game but I LOVE Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

I think I tried getting into it a while ago and just stopped watching for some reason and I don’t know what’s wrong with me because it’s fantastic.

The humor and characters are right up my alley and honestly I don’t know who my favorite is because they’re all fantastic. (It’s probably Gina because she’s amazing. And her vocal fry is INSANE.)

It also amazes me how deep actress Stephanie Beatriz drops her voice when playing Rosa Diaz – her natural speaking voice is so much higher pitched! And you’d never guess it wasn’t natural on the show.

What are you listening to, reading and watching?

  1. I watched the first few seasons of Brooklyn Nine Nine and loved them so much, but then, like you, just stopped watching it for some reason. I really need to get back into it because that show was always one of my favorites!
    Stephany recently posted…What I’m Reading (2.11.19)My Profile

  2. The Weezer album sounds good and so does that book!

  3. I’ve been listening to that Weezer album too! My favorite has to be Take On Me. Such a fun song! Apparently they are also dropping another album with their own hits in the next month or so.

I’ve been reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. It’s a really good read and not really political at all. (Although she does talk about the election.) I’ve been watching reruns of Parks & Rec because I just love that show. 🙂

    • Parks and Rec is SO GOOD. Another show I didn’t get into until late, but love it so, so much. And I really want to read Becoming, but I think I may do Audible or something with narration. I’d love to hear her read it!

  4. I always love getting suggestions from others!

  5. We *just* listened to the Weezer album on Saturday! Erik brought it up, I didn’t realize they had done a whole album of covers. I liked Africa when it came out, but it’s been soooo overplayed that I’m sick of it now. We liked most of the covers – Sweet Dreams just didn’t do it for me at all, and No Scrubs was a little weird, haha.

I’m reading Becoming by Michelle Obama and Carry On, Warrior by Glennon Doyle. I don’t watch a lot of TV – we’re watching Kids Baking Championship on Food Network, and that’s about it.

  6. I’m definitely going to check out that Where to Go Book. It sounds like a great deal. Thanks for linking up with Hello Monday! Tanya – The Other Side of the Road

  7. Weezer is such a good one. Well I’m even more late to the game because I haven’t see Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I’ve been enjoying the typical shows, This is Us, A Million Little Things. We also started watching Good Girl on Netflix. Sierra Beautifully Candid

  8. I totally just added the Lonely Planet guide for my sister as a gift. And also, are you me? We also JUST got into Brooklyn 99 this last month or so.

I avoided it because I don’t like shows that glorify cops, but Lin-Manuel loves it, and I saw a few eps on a plane ride, and … I am so, so hooked.

    • LOL at “Are you me?” Because YES. Haha. I have to say, the show getting resurrected on NBC definitely spurred me into watching it again, but if Lin-Manuel loves it then of course I’m game as well. I love that he, Seth Meyers and other celebs take credit for their Twitter crusade making it get pick up by NBC!

  1. […] Planet’s Where To Go When book – I wrote about this book in my last Listening, Reading, Watching post and how great it was. And it’s still under $10! Such a great price for an awesome […]
