It’s been a hot minute, hasn’t it? I tried to get back into blogging for a little bit and then it just fell to the wayside again. Honestly, I’m not sure where I’m going with this.

I love blogging but I loathe the sense of competition, FOMO and resentment that I feel often comes with it now. At least for me. No one blogs just to do it – just to write. Everyone has an agenda and it’s hard for me to spend time, effort and often money on something with little to no result. I miss the community it used to be.

I also feel like I can’t just sit down and type anymore. You need a graphic, you need catchy words and affiliate links and more. I work 40+ hours a week and try to spend the rest of my time taking care of my family and having some semblance of a social life. How am I supposed to fit it all in?

Anyway, I’m not really sure where I am going with this – most of it was word vomit after being dormant for months.

I want to come back to this space, but I need to remove the roadblocks that I associate with it and just do what I want when I want and how I want. Graphic, no graphic, affiliate links or not. These shouldn’t be the reason I do or do not blog.

So here goes.

Are there any topics you love that I’ve written on before? I’d love to hear from you what you enjoy reading here. 🙂

  1. Hi. Still here, still reading (when you post!).

I want you to know that I feel you on the “competition” that is going on… but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are still people out there who just blog for the fun of blogging (me!)…. I try to stay away from blogs with too much hype or too much sponsored content. Not worth my time.

  2. I get what you mean about certain bloggers and sponsored posts and cliques and feeling left out. I for one miss your posts!

  3. Preach! Every single day I have this debate of whether I should continue blogging or not. I too work 40 hours a week and am in charge of not one but 2 websites at work I have to manage. It’s a lot! Let me encourage you to just write. When you do find the inspiration, share it with us!

    • Thanks, Shannon! If I had to write for work too I don’t know if I’d ever have it in me to blog outside of that! I have started journaling which has been nice (and also helps get my anxieties down on paper), but it’ll be nice to get back to this online space.

  4. I’m with you.
    You write what you want.
    Graphics, links, etc be damned.
If you want to write, write.
    If you don’t, don’t.
I miss the community of before too.
I’ll read whatever shows up in my reader.

  5. I hope you keep blogging! Blogging has changed so much, but there are a few of us still hanging around who are still doing personal blogging. I, too, get rather overwhelmed by all of the “for profit” blogging happening today – the affiliate links and sponsored posts. That’s not for me. I love just talking about my life on my little blog! But it definitely takes effort to put up posts every week, so I hear you on finding the time. It’s not easy!

    • Thanks, Stephany! I appreciate the comment. I’m all for an affiliate link or two when I can to earn some extra $$ but its hard not to get the jealousies when seeing others’ popular blogs with tons of sponsorships etc ya know? And the time to sit down and do it all, well that’s even more stressful haha! <3

  6. I love bloggers that just blog. I know for some people it is their main source of income so it has to be different but although I have never blogged, I too miss the community the way it used to be! I totally don’t mind sponsored posts or affiliate links but I also just liked it when people wrote about their weekends!! Write whatever you want and I will be hear to read it 🙂

    • Aw thank you so much for the comment! And I agree – I don’t mind a sponsored post or two or affiliate links, but when that’s all that is posted then I lose interest.
