Listening, Reading, Watching

I’ve wanted to talk about podcasts I’ve been listening to and shows I’ve been watching and other stuff but in looking at my notes I realize those would both be very long blog posts. And after my super long books I’ve read in five months post, no one wants that again! So I decided to come up with a monthly feature where I’ll discuss one thing I’m listening to, one thing I am reading and one thing I am watching to share with you!

Listening, Reading, Watching | Perks of Being a JAP |

Babysitters Club Club | Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.comOne of the first podcasts I began listening to was The Babysitters Club Club. Two male Buzzfeed staff members – Jack and Tanner – decided to read every single Babysitters Club book. Each episode is a single book in the series and I literally laugh out loud with each book. They are ridiculous in the best way. I’m a few episodes behind so now they’re up to or near book/episode 100 and within the last two years, they’ve developed so many theories and other things. Basically, conspiracy theories, if you will. They now have certain bits they will do including but not limited to Claudia’s Closet (where they discuss her outfit descriptions), Tanner Googles (where Tanner Googles something much to Jack’s dismay), Burn of the Week (where someone delivers a sick burn in the story), Tearful Moment (something that made them cry) and more. If you want a podcast that’s light-hearted and entertaining I highly recommend it – but you should start from the beginning and plan to binge, otherwise a lot of references may not make sense!

The Butterfly Garden | Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.comI don’t want to go into a lot of detail because I do my monthly What I Read recaps, but wanted to share that right now I’m reading The Butterfly Garden. Oh man. I am immediately sucked into this one! Here is the description:

“Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden. In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees…and a collection of precious “butterflies”—young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.”

I am simultaneously intrigued and want to throw up at the same time. This is a trilogy, so time will tell if I want to read all three at the end of the first one!

America's Next Top Model | Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.comMost shows Dave and I watch together and I tend to binge watch reality TV and other crappy shows when he isn’t around. I am LOVING this season of America’s Next Top Model! I’ve been watching the show since pretty close to the beginning and Tyra is BACK this season! Wooo I love that crazy woman. This season is also fantastic because there is no age limit (and one of the contestants is in her 40s!) and the models are all shapes and sizes. It’s great. And just so much drama and the cast is SO diversified this year!

What are you listening to, reading and watching?

  1. I used to LOVE The Babysitters Club! I’ve got to check that podcast out.

I’ve been listening to Skimmed From The Couch podcast by the girls that founded “The Skimm.” They interview women in business and how they got to where they are today. It’s really inspiring! I just started reading “The Princess Diarist” by Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia. It’s pretty good so far! As for watching, I’ve been watching the Queer Eye for The Straight Guy on Netflix. It’s a reboot of the old show but it’s so good!

    • Oooh I didn’t realize Skimm had a podcast! I’ll have to look into that one. I am pretty sure I have Princess Diarist either on my kindle or in my Audible account. I’ve heard the new Queer Eye is great – haven’t watched yet!

  2. I can’t figure out where to watch past ANTM seasons. I had been all caught up & then they stopped making them available online! I do love me some trashy modeling TV. And man, The Butterfly Garden is SO effed-up. Didn’t realize it was a trilogy!

    • We download them. Oooops. I didn’t realize they stopped offering them online! Boooo Tyra!!! I’m prob halfway through the Butterfly Garden now and OMG. RIDICULOUS.

  3. I don’t really do podcasts but the babysitter’s club podcast sounds awesome!
