Halloween Costumes through the Years

This post is sponsored by Oriental Trading Company, but please note all ideas and opinions are my own.

I’m a planner by nature (and day job!) and Halloween costumes are no exception! When I dressed up for Halloween I planned my costume weeks in advance, and with Sadie, I like to get it done even earlier.

When Sadie was a baby her first Halloween fell right after Hurricane Sandy and so she didn’t get a trick-or-treating experience, but she did get to wear her costume! I used to collect rubber ducks so of course, she was a ducky for Halloween!

The following year I found this adorable Giants cheerleader costume, so Sadie was the cutest cheerleader on the block.

Soon after Sadie started getting into all things Disney! The princess bug hadn’t bit yet and she was still little enough that I could pick a costume for her so I went with Tinkerbell!

And then we were fully immersed in princesses! Sadie was (and still is) in love with Rapunzel so along with a fake braid, she chose an adorable Rapunzel to be for Halloween.

Last year, Sadie went in a different princess direction and chose Jasmine! It kind of surprised us because she hadn’t really watched Aladdin, but she wanted it, rocked the costume AND the black wig!

Fast forward to this year and we were already thinking about costumes in the middle of summer! Sadie and I spent hours scouring the costume pages of Oriental Trading, marking our favorites and discussing options. I love how easy Oriental Trading makes it to navigate the costumes too! You can search by Super Heroes, Disney, and more! Sadie was lucky enough to get two costumes this season and she goes back and forth almost daily on which one she will wear for Halloween! I am thinking she will wear one for her school’s Halloween party and the other to trick-or-treat. First up – another princess costume!

It’s Ariel, the Little Mermaid!

Sadie loves how sparkly the costume is, and is obsessed with the red wig! The costume comes with the dress and the headband, the wig is separate (but SO worth it.)

I love that it’s modest and potentially warm enough to wear without a jacket if she decides this is the one for Halloween night!

Sadie’s other costume is….. Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na… BATGIRL!

How adorable is this costume? Sadie insisted on the pink one (shocker haha.) It comes with everything you see Sadie wearing!

This face… this might be one of my favorite photos!!! She’s the best.

The “boots” are awesome – they slip on and hook under her shoes with elastic!

Two very awesome costumes for this year! I have to say, I never thought of getting costumes from Oriental Trading before this year – I’d always go to the store and half the time they didn’t have Sadie’s size or they were SUPER expensive. This will be my go-to for Halloweens to come!

Do you or your kids have Halloween costumes yet? Where do you get yours from?
