Where My Head is At…

Fragmented, because that’s where my head is at right now.

A Glimpse Into my Daily Planner | Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.comI feel bad that I haven’t been blogging regularly, but by the time I get home from work and am ready to sit down at my computer, I’m wiped.

I have so many things that I WANT to do but am too tired to do them. I NEED decompression time and if I am constantly on the go, I feel like I can’t relax.

Work is from 8-5 and by the time I get home it’s close to 6 pm. Then is dinner, time with Sadie, bedtime ritual and by the time all is said and done it’s after 8:30. I’m in bed around 11 the latest and then it’s on repeat the next day.

How do you get it all done? How do you make time for work, kids, cleaning, blogging, chores, exercise and relaxation? Seriously, someone tell me.

I have a planner. I use Google Calendar. I write out lists. But when push comes to shove I just don’t have the energy (or time) to get it all done!

And yes, I have had bloodwork done to make sure I don’t have any deficiencies that would be making me tired. I’ve honestly been tired for as long as I can remember!

How do you get things done? What are your fool proof ways to check the boxes off on your to-do list without feeling like you don’t have any time for yourself?

Or is it just me?

  1. You’re not alone. I feel like that (and I don’t even have kids!).
For me it’s often a matter of what head space I am in… some days, I can get into a mental mindset that makes me feel like I am on top of everything that needs to be done and also carve out time to do what I would like to do… but it doesn’t always work out. I do try to use my time very wisely, fill every free minute with something that I can get done, so I have larger chunks of time free on the weekends/evenings. How you factor a kid into all of this, I have no idea.

    • I definitely feel the same way – some days (weeks!) I am so on top of my game and get a ton done. And then others I just have no motivation or energy at all. Sigh.

  2. I ask myself this frequently. We’ve been trying to save time by planning ahead. We do online grocery order / curbside pick up in combo with meal planning to cut down on dinner times. I prefer laundry to dishes so I tend to put a load in washer while hubs starts dishes. Of course there are many days the clothes sit in the dryer all wrinkly. Balance is hard. Oh and Amazon S&S any staples so your brain can be freed from thinking about essentials like soap and trash bags.

    • Great tips! I am lucky in that Dave usually does the shopping and cooks most nights since he gets home first. But then its laundry, the house being messy (I don’t like a ton of crap all over) and etc and so forth. If I work from home its so much better cause I can do stuff here and there but I am in the office 5 days a week, 8-5. And then traveling! Ugh. <3

  3. I’m not sure what time you get up, but 11 is probably too late as a bedtime if you are at work by 8am. I have been trying to go to bed by 9:30 these days as I have been waking up at 5am to workout (I generally don’t get into work until 8-8:30 after an almost hour long commute). Maybe if you got up early you could get some things done before others in your family are awake? I used to poo-poo the idea, but now I love that I get my workout out of the way.

As far as getting other things done, now that we are back into our house again, I will start up with a once/month cleaner. That forces me to pick things up beforehand. We also have been trying to figure out better ways of organizing our house, so instead of an entryway table, we are buying a bench so that everyone can put their shoes inside in lieu of leaving them strewn about in the front hallway.

As far as being tired, I recently started to drink a coffee-like beverage every morning which helps. I have also been taking 3mg of melatonin about an hour before bed and I am sleeping MUCH BETTER and feel more rested when I wake up on the nights that I take it.

    • I would go to bed earlier but I hate only having like an hour between when Sadie goes to bed and I do. And you’re right, when I get up earlier in the morning and get stuff accomplished I feel great – but getting up is the hard part!!! I already have a coffee addiction and actually cut my afternoon cup back because I think that was affecting my sleep at night. Ahh so many things! Oh and I use melatonin gummies and lavender spray at night when I need it – knocks me right out!

  4. I hear you! I struggle with this all the time 🙂 I work Monday to Friday 9 – 5, husband works away for 3 weeks at a time and I am just not great at organising my time. If you have the funds available may I suggest getting a cleaner? My mum gave me the present of a cleaner for Christmas and its genuinely the best present every. She comes in fortnightly and at least keeps on top of the main stuff, I still have daily stuff to do but I can cope with 10/15 minutes every night. When it comes to excercise I have decided to incorporate that with playing with my daughter. She is the same age as Sadie and its a great age! I am training for a 10k at the moment so in the evening (if its still light, in the Summer in Scotland it stays light till about 10pm) we have been going to the park, she cycles round the park whilst I run beside her. Sometimes she runs as well (she is taking part in a 5k on the same day as my 10k) so I feel at least I am spending time with her, getting her out in the fresh air and I am exercising as well. If you have a slow cooker (crock pot) try and use that a couple of times a week. I love getting home from work and knowing that I dont have to do anything for dinner. I now dont do bath time, Amy just has a shower (apart from a Sunday night) as I find it so much quicker. Anyway thats my ramblings. Some weeks I feel I have it all together and other weeks I have no clue! I think we all just try to do the best we can and I am sure you are doing great.
