Our Week at Smugglers’ Notch

We spent most of the week of President’s Day up at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Vermont for a ski/snowboard vacation! Dave is an avid skier and really wants Sadie to get into it. I also agreed to take private snowboarding lessons as a last ditch attempt to get me into winter sports. 🙂

Of course the week we went, the weather was unseasonably warm! Everything was turning to slush as you walked around the resort and the snow was like mashed potatoes by midday on the slopes.

We signed Sadie up for four full days of ski camp – and she loved it! The children’s program is one of the main reasons we decided to vacation up at Smuggs – it’s like the number one program in the country! We’d get her ready each morning and then not see her again until the afternoon!

By the end of the week, Sadie was doing so well! She was learning how to stop, she could get back up by herself after falling (most of the time) and she was working so hard on her turns!  Here are some pics I took throughout the week.

On our last full day at Smuggs she was ready for a run with Dave! They didn’t go on the ski lift much to Sadie’s chagrin. The conditions were really bad on our last day and I had already fallen by that point. But Dave took her up on the magic carpet on the learning hill and they cut across to the bottom half of a green trail.

The ski camp was wonderful for Sadie to learn the basic skills and get her out each day with amazing instructors. They also provided entertainment after the camp on certain days – like this performer! Dave got roped into assisting! You can see him in the red plaid shirt – he’s the first guy on the performer’s right!

He then was forced to stay got to stay to help with the final trick. I guess the performer needed a big guy!

Smugglers’ Notch is amazing, kid-friendly resort and they have activities almost every day! We didn’t get to do many of them since we wanted to go into town for restaurants and different things (another post!) but we lucked out and were there for a festival hosted by FamilyCircle (I think). They had some games, face painting, food and more – and everything was free! Sadie obviously gravitated towards the face painting haha – her nice parents waited on the looooong line for it as she played on a climbing area nearby.

They also had two ice sculptors! Although things didn’t last very long in the unseasonably warm weather! One was carving kids’ names into an ice block!

Our little butterfly! She shocked us by not picking the princess.

We had such an amazing time at Smugglers’ Notch Resort and would go back in a heartbeat. Sadie can’t wait to go skiing again and I actually managed to enjoy two mornings of snowboarding lessons (before I fell and got hurt haha) and didn’t write it off of my list forever! (Dave is soooo happy.) My amazing instructor Kim was a perfect fit for me and I highly recommend private lessons to anyone who is just learning and who is afraid like me. It was so much better than a group setting. She also took video of me when I was getting in some good runs at the end – check it out! (Sorry its super pixelated!)

I was not compensated in any way for this post – I just wanted to share our great time at Smugglers’ Notch with everyone!

  2. Ski baby! I love that she is learning something that she can maintain as a lifetime sport. Also something that she can always enjoy doing with you…. I envied my friends whose parents would take them skiing for every spring break.

    • It really wasn’t a thing growing up by me? But a lot of members of Dave’s family belong to ski clubs at school and live near enough to mountains that it has become a family activity.

  3. Sadie looks like quite the little pro skier! I’ve always wanted to try skiing. But I’m from Florida so I probably won’t be very good at it!
