A Funky Start to 2017

Oh, January. You’ve been a beast. I’ve been in such a funk recently and I’m sure part of it is due to my sugar levels dropping from Whole30, but there has just been so much crap and what seems like bad luck in our lives the past few weeks. Since January 1:

  • I was really sick
  • Then Sadie had strep throat AND a bad virus on top of it and was out of school for close to a week. Her fever hit 104 at one point resulting in a trip to PM Pediatrics.
  • Two of my great aunts died within a week of each other.
  • My grandfather fell in his apartment and wound up in the hospital. He’s fine, thank goodness – no broken bones or anything but he did have the flu and was weak. He’s been in rehab and now uses a walker for stability. He finally goes home today. (Thank goodness.)

So the month couldn’t have gotten worse, right? Well, this past weekend Dave found out a good friend of his took his own life. It’s been horrible. Our whole group of friends is shattered by the loss and we’ve really just been walking around in a fog. This makes two friends lost to suicide in the last year between Dave and I.

Sigh. I know things will pick up. They have to. Thankfully we had a fabulous, low-key Valentine’s Day and we’re going on vacation next week and seeing Lewis Black on Saturday. I’m hoping we’ve had enough bad fortune in the beginning of this year to last us through 2017…

Tell me something good that’s happened to you. Please?

  1. Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about your aunts & your friend. Sending you so much love & positivity…

Something good: I’m in Chicago for work for the week/end, & the weather is incredible!

  2. Oh gosh, I’m so sorry about everything that’s been going on. I’ve lost 3 friends to suicide and it’s just awful. I hope things start looking up soon.

  3. Oh man. I’m sorry to hear all of that and hope you find some peace.

    Hugs.

Good things: I’ve found some clarity in my anxiety relating to the relationship I’m in. And I don’t have to teach my 8 am swim lesson tomorrow. (Love those girls but man, this little break is nice.)

  4. I’m super delayed in responding, but hugs to you and yours. These kinds of EVERYTHING AT ONCE days/weeks/months are so draining!

    Hugs!
