Crafty Kid Crafts – Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool Book Activity & Class Gift Ideas

This post is sponsored by Oriental Trading Company, but please note all ideas and opinions are my own.

When Oriental Trading reached out to me asking if I wanted to do a Valentine’s Day project I immediately jumped on it! Our dinosaur craft project was so much fun and Sadie has been SO into these projects lately.

Instead of putting decals or fun pictures on our floor to make a path to the craft (like I usually do) I wound up sticking these heart cutouts and this garland on our living room mirrors for Sadie to see when she woke up. We were still pretty sick so I didn’t even know if she’d want to craft, but she did. (P.S. I’m in LOVE with that heart garland! It’s so inexpensive and looks so cute! I may snag some more of them for next year.)

I also got this adorable wreath for our front door! A couple of petals snapped off in transit, but you can’t even tell!

I also like to connect our craft projects to a book whenever possible, so I used the book I was planning on giving Sadie for Valentine’s Day for this project and gave it to her a bit early! I picked Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool. In the book, Pete first doesn’t think Valentine’s Day is cool and then gets into it, making cards for everyone he knows – and things get a little out of control!

Sadie and I sat down and read the book and then got to work making Valentine’s Day cards for everyone like Pete the Cat! To make the activity extra festive I covered (and protected) our table with this light pink tablecloth. Sadie wouldn’t let me take it off the table for days afterwards!

Oriental Trading has some GREAT Valentine’s Day crafting goodies and a ton for card making! We used:

This was also a great activity for Sadie since she’s been learning her letters and numbers in school and she could practice writing. Gotta love that backwards S. 🙂

I think Sadie’s favorite thing were the foam stickers!

Since Sadie was still under the weather here she petered out after a few cards, but we left the supplies out so she’s been making more over the last few days and wants to make even more leading up to Valentine’s Day!

If you have kids, do you read Pete the Cat? We love the books!

I also took advantage of Oriental Trading‘s Valentine’s Day cards selection to pick up little treats for Sadie’s class exchange. Whenever possible I try to not give candy – they get enough of that! After much deliberation I went with something I knew Sadie would love – jewelry and stickers!

How cute are these Valentine Emoji Bracelets & Exchange Cards? I think the card and bracelet are adorable and there’s plenty of room for Sadie to write her friends’ names (she writes pretty big.) I also grabbed these Emoji Stickers to include and Sadie already snagged a sheet for herself!

I didn’t want these two things to get lost in the shuffle of everything her friends will get that day so I decided to put them in the Mini White Treat Bags that Orientation Trading offers – and they are perfect to decorate! We used some of the foam self adhesive stickers and we’ll write each kids name on the bag – voila! A perfect Valentine’s Day treat sack.

Do you put together Valentine’s Exchange treats for your kid’s class? Or maybe with you and your friends?
