Even More Fun with Apple the Elf (on the Shelf!)

Yes, Christmas is over and our elf has returned to the North Pole, but I wanted to wrap up all the fun things we did with Sadie and our elf this season.

We introduced Elf on the Shelf to our household about two years ago and this year is probably the most fun we’ve had with it because Sadie is SO into it. I swear four is the perfect age for stuff like this. She wakes up every morning immediately telling Dave and I that we have to look for Apple. (Our elf – her name is Apple.)

I thought I’d share some more of the shenanigans that Apple the Elf has gotten herself into so far this year! I know some parents really dislike the whole Elf on the Shelf thing but I love it!

Day 21: a Peppa Pig Party

Apple the Elf was hanging out in Peppa Pig’s house, having a party with George, Peppa and the gang. No photo though because Sadie dismantled it before I got downstairs that morning.

Day 22: Spa Day

I love this one. I have this spa duckie in the bathroom so I gave the elf a spa day too! You just need two tissues tucked into themselves to wrap around the head and two cut out green circles for cucumbers!

Day 23: Game Night

Apple the Elf got in a hardcore game of Candy Land with some of Sadie’s stuffed animals. This picture reminds me how much I loathe our living room rug and can’t wait to get a new one.

Day 24: Channeling E.T.

Our elf was channeling E.T. and hid in a pile of Sadie’s stuffed animals!

Day 25: Hiding in the Fridge with Cookies

Apple hid in the fridge. Not to worry, she wrapped a dish towel around herself to keep warm – AND she had a surprise for Sadie – reindeer cookies to bake!

Day 26: Going Bananas

Sadie found Apple the Elf going bananas! I would have drawn Minion faces on them like I’ve seen all over Pinterest but this was another morning I forgot to move the elf so I just threw her in there.

Day 27: How to Train Your Dragon

Undetermined if our elf was trying to pretend she was in How to Train Your Dragon, or was pretending to be Khaleesi from Game of Thrones, but Sadie found her astride a dragon (Toothless) in our room. Not only was she hysterical about Apple on the dragon, but also the fact that she was in our room versus anywhere else in the house.

Day 28: Saying Goodbye to Apple

Our Elf actually didn’t leave until the day after Christmas. Sadie fell asleep on the way home Christmas Eve, so I wanted to give her a chance to say goodbye. When she woke up on Christmas morning, Apple was dressed in her traveling gear and was sitting by the empty plate from Santa, with a note from him as well.

“Apple the Elf loved being with you again this Christmas season and begged me to stay one more day so she could see you open presents and say goodbye to you since you were asleep when you got home. She is wearing her travel clothes to leave in tomorrow.”

Follow this year’s elf shenanigans on Instagram with the hashtag #appletheelf2016. There are also some under #appletheelf but I guess someone else named their elf Apple so some posts aren’t mine.

  1. I don’t have a kid, so I am cynical and not entirely sure about this Elf on the Shelf thing. However, after looking at your photos, I can tell you do it better than most of the ones I see in my social media!!!

I have a friend who doesn’t do the Elf, and her kids heard other kids talk about it at school. They were worried because they didn’t have an elf, so she told them they don’t need one because Santa’s helper (their family dog) was reporting back to Santa on their behavior year-round. They were extra nice to the dog during the holidays, gentler, and my friend escaped the Elf!!!

    • Ok, that’s hysterical that your friend said the dog was reporting back to Santa! Smart woman! The Elf on the Shelf thing can get kind of ridiculous and also redundant, but I think I love it as much as Sadie! Haha.
