Treat Yo Self – Making Time for Self Care

I’m a busy mom. I work full time, travel often, and have little time to take care of things around the house once I’m home for the day. My weekends are jam packed with activities and it’s hard to squeeze everything in. With everything going on in my life it’s easy for me to burn out but I try REALLY hard to indulge in a little self-care.

Sometimes that also means shutting down and saying no. I have a big problem with overcommitting and agreeing to things that sound good when they’re in the far, distant future, but when it comes time to actually going I get major anxiety about it and ultimately wind up canceling or flaking last minute. I don’t want this to become the norm so I try really hard now not to overcommit myself and leave open nights and weekends where no plans are made. When I get those times to myself – it’s self-care time!!

Self-care for me could be a number of different things – some Netflix binge watching, taking time out to relax with some adult coloring books or my Kindle, putting on something to de-puff the ever-present bags under my eyes and a good face mask.

I LOVE face masks. Sheet masks, mud masks, peel off masks – you name it and I’ve probably tried it and hoarded it in my medicine cabinet and linen closet. I love that they do so many different things! You can get masks that moisturize, that absorb moisture, brighten, de-puff, detoxify, de-basically anything! The L’Oreal Paris Pure-Clay Masks are awesome because each one has a different purpose!

I never apply a face mask when I’m in a rush. It’s always when I have time to sit, relax with my newest People magazine and take some time for myself. I totally equate them with relaxation and so it almost feels wrong to apply one if I don’t have the time to take a few moments and unwind.

There are three L’Oreal Paris Pure-Clay Masks:

  • Purify & Mattify Treatment Mask (the mint green one)– addresses your shiny and oily skin to reveal clarified, mattified, and refreshed complexion. Immediately skin appears purified and healthier. Skin looks less shiny and excess oil is reduced. Pores seem tightened and less visible, without over-drying.
  • Detox & Brighten Treatment Mask (the black one) – addresses your dull, tired skin to reveal a purified, even and radiant complexion. Immediately, skin looks brighter with a healthy glow. Deep pore cleansing–dirt, dust and pollution are removed from the skin.
  • Exfoliate & Refining Treatment Mask (the red one) – addresses rough skin and deep clogged pores on the face to reveal a polished, pore-minimized and smooth complexion. Immediately skin texture appears refined and smooth and pores are visibly minimized.

I really enjoyed all three of these masks and felt like they each did something different for my skin. I have dry skin but sometimes use products to reduce oil if I’m feeling like my face needs a fresh start or a reset. The green mask was great for that reset. The black mask was a really good pore cleanser. And I used the reddish mask to smooth things out.

What’s your favorite method of self-care? Do you have a favorite face mask too?

Lastly, I couldn’t have a post dedicated to treating yo self without a nod to Parks and Rec!

Treat Yo Self!

  1. The green one is what I use. My face gets really oily, so this really helps tone it all down and makes me less shiny. It does, though, dry very tight. Some times it depends on how thick I put it on, too. I’ve also found that using the mask just on my T-zone helps a lot without having to commit to my whole face. I’ll have to give the others a go sometime!

  4. I almost never use face masks because I hate sitting around waiting for them to dry, which is crazy because THEY FEEL GREAT.

    • Put them on while you do something else! I try to relax while they dry but ultimately read or take care of something in that timeframe. OR you can try the Sephora masks that you WEAR WHILE YOU SLEEP.

  5. I love the idea of face masks, but I always forget to use them… LOL

    • If I’m just puttering around the house I always try to do one! Or put one one before I get in the shower if I have time so then I can just wash it off there!
