June/July Stitch Fix Reveal

June/July Stitch Fix Reveal | Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.com

It’s Stitch Fix reveal time! I’m saying this fix was for June and July because it got delivered June 30th! It came just in time for my birthday (woo!) and my weekend away in Pennsylvania and I ripped it open immediately to see what I could pack for the weekend! I had asked my fabulous stylist Liz B. for some summer dresses – maxi, midi, etc. I got three dresses, a skirt and a kimono top! Check it out…

41Hawthorn Kassidy Faux Wrap Dress – Unfortunately I knew out of the box I wouldn’t like this dress. I love the color purple but I don’t care for this particular shade. The pattern was okay and the fit was very comfortable BUT because of my chest the one side of the dress kept creeping underneath my left boob and then it looks like I have one massive left boob and am almost flat chested on the right. Returned.

Michael Stars Mik Knit Crochet Detail Tank Dress – When I saw that Liz included a Michael Stars item in my fix I was so excited! When I worked in a clothing store in a chi-chi neighborhood in my college days we were flooded with Michael Stars and everything was SO COMFY. This dress did not disappoint! I love the color (like a deep teal) and it’s a great length, super comfortable and I am obsessed with the crochet back detail. I’ve already worn it twice – once for my birthday dinner in PA and once to work! Kept!

Everly Katilina Floral Dress – Again, holy Casper legs. I really need to invest in some good self tanner or something. Immediately out of the box I LOVED this dress but I almost didn’t keep it! The back strap pulls slightly but when Dave saw it on me he said I should keep the dress. I wore it to work and for date night and got a ton of compliments. It’s very light weight and I can see myself dressing it up with heels or dressing down with sandals and a denim jacket (like I did for date night!) I also adore the floral print! Kept.

Renee C Shana Printed Maxi Skirt – Oh how I wanted to love this maxi skirt. The print was adorable! But it bothered me how the pattern didn’t line up at the seam (see the side profile) and I felt like it was a little shorter in the back than the front… like the hem was off? Maybe it’s just my giant behind! Alas I have two maxi skirts that I rarely wear so I couldn’t justify bringing a third into the mix as cute as the pattern was. Returned.

Papermoon Bellini Kimono | June/July Stitch Fix Reveal| Perks of Being a JAP | www.perksofbeingajap.com

Papermoon Bellini Kimono – I’ve decided that I’m just not a kimono person. I feel like every time I get one in a fix I don’t like it. It’s something about the fit. I liked the color palette on this kimono and it was very soft and silky feeling but that was pretty much it. I’m also not a big fan of paisley and that kind of dominated the top for me. Returned.

Although I only kept two out of the five items the two that I kept were both dresses and that’s what I wanted this fix! What I love about having Liz as a stylist is that she thinks about every piece and if she doesn’t love it herself she won’t send it! Sure she could just send me some random dresses but then I will most likely send it all back since no thought would have been put into it. 🙂 What do you think about my fix this month?

  1. Oh, I wanted you to keep the wrap dress and maxi skirt, but I understand the reasons why you didn’t… all of the stuff was super-cute (pattern, style) though. It must be hard to pick, so you really have to make smart choices (and really think about if you love everything about the item!)

    • Agreed about having to make smart choices! If this stuff was from like Forever 21 I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about it, but for the cost I need to make sure I LOVE the items.

  2. I totally agree with what you kept/returned! If I’d only seen the photos (and not your decisions), that’s what I would have picked for you too. I have a friend who sews/knits her own clothes (including jeans, bras, the works) and she says that fabric not matching up prints at the seam is a sign of mass-production vs. careful construction. I have tons of prints that don’t match at the seams, but I’ve noticed pricier designer items DO pattern match, even on plaids and stuff! 🙂

You just have a discerning eye. That Michael Stars dress would never work on me, but it looks so cute on you! I think the wrap dress would have worked for me, in general with my smaller chest those look good on my body to craft an hourglass silhouette.

  3. 1. Patterns not lining up is always a deal breaker for me. Just can’t do it.

    2. I LOVE that purple dress!! But I totally get the weird boob thing that is going on.

    3. Swoooooon on the tank dress you kept! So pretty!

    • 1. This one was just REALLY noticeable, ya know? If it’s slight I can usually get by it.
      2. People seem to like it! But sadly it just wasn’t me.
      3. Thanks! I loooooooooove that dress! And the color. And the designer. WIN!

  4. Oh I love that floral dress, so cute!

  5. I can see why you kept what you kept and returned what you returned! I like the wrap dress, too bad it didn’t work for you.

  6. I love the two dresses you kept & think you returned the right things. I do think the kimono looks great, but I totally understand just not digging the weirdness of their fit.

    • Thanks! I usually like big, drapey clothes but if is a short shape I tend to think it makes me look boxy, and I have a pretty short torso. Longer would have probably made a difference.

  7. I pretty much live in maxi skirts right now (because apparently I have forgotten how to deal with summer, in regards to cloths)… but I don’t know if I’ve ever noticed if the patterns lined up… now I’m curious!! Also, I’d love to be a kimono person, but I feel super weird in them. :\

  8. I love the two dresses you kept! And oh yeah, that would bother me how the pattern didn’t line up on the skirt! I just keep thinking how project runway would rip apart a designer if they did that!
