Crispy Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings

We are BIG wings fans in the Rose household. Sadie especially – she loves gnawing the meat off the bone! As much as we love them I rarely make them at home. I find that a lot of the recipes I’ve tried whether the wings are fried or slow cooked are just too greasy. SO when I saw this recipe for baked buffalo wings on Pinterest I got so excited! And luckily had all of the ingredients on hand to make it that night.

Crispy Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings

Recipe from Yellow Bliss Road
– 3 pounds chicken wings or drumettes
– ½ cup flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 2 teaspoon chili powder
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– ½ teaspoon pepper
– 2 tablespoon baking powder
– Bottled buffalo wing sauce

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Prepare a large cookie sheet by covering with foil and spraying with cooking spray.
2. Rinse chicken wings and trim any excess skin. Do not remove the skin or you will lose the crispiness. Pat chicken dry.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and seasonings. Add chicken and coat with the flour mixture.
4. Arrange chicken on the cookie sheet, at least an inch apart and bake for 30-35 minutes, turning once after about 20 minutes.
5. Pour out the amount of wing sauce you need into a bowl. If you don’t want to use bottled wing sauce you can add about a ½ cup of hot sauce and a stick of butter to a small saucepan. Heat on low and stir until butter is melted and sauce begins to bubble. Add some more hot sauce if you want it spicier.
6. Pour the sauce over the crispy baked chicken wings and toss to coat. Serve with celery and carrot sticks and a side of blue cheese dressing.

So when I made this I forgot to add the baking powder to the wings. Ooops. But they still tasted amazing and the texture was nice and crispy so I can only imagine the baking powder will make it even better. We also realized our carrots went bad, so only celery!!

I also used wing sauce and mixed it with butter as if I were using hot sauce… which tasted fantastic but if you go the bottled buffalo sauce route I suggest no butter. It’s not needed.

Mmmmm so good. The great thing about this meal is that you can cater it according to spice level if you need. Sadie doesn’t really like spicy foods so before I doused the wings in the buffalo sauce I took some out for her to eat.

  1. Rhis is definitely in my future!

  2. Drooling all over my keyboard…

  3. I tried making wings the other week… but I completely didn’t think about trimming the extra skin or dredging in flour (I think I was just too excited about finally having wings!)… and the skin on them got really gummy and gross. Definitely going to do this with the last batch of wings. Love, love, love some wings! <3
