2015 – The Year Of…

Stealing this from Jess. Seemed like a pretty good way to a) get writing and b) reflect on 2015. (Thanks Jess!)

1. What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?
Went to therapy.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t think I made any last year? And for this year… well I hate making concrete resolutions. How about goals?
– I’d like to keep my life more organized in general.
– Be more patient with Sadie (and Dave sometimes!)
– Stay on top of things more (less procrastination.)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not particularly close to me, but I did find out 3 close friends are pregnant this year – so babies in 2016!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my great-aunt just passed away on Dec 23rd.

5. What countries did you visit?
Spain and Denmark for work. Sweden for a quick side trip after my work event.

6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?
More money? 😉 A nice vacation. No car payments. Less anxiety and stress.

7. What moments from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Watching the sunset at 10pm-11pm at a seaside cafe in Malmö, Sweden. Watching Sadie learn how to ride her bicycle. Sadie and her cousins finally being at ages where they can play together (nicely.) Sadie rocking her flower girl role at our friend’s wedding. Traveling to Minnesota for a really good friend’s wedding in September. And visiting the Minnesota State Fair. Going to 4 weddings in 3 months! (And our family being in 3 of them.) Sadie’s first dance class.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Acknowledging that I had a problem with anxiety and doing something about it for a change.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting frustrated too easily. Snapping at Sadie when I am frustrated.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, thankfully.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Makeup. Sounds silly but I love that I take the time to make myself look nice with a little bit of makeup.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Dave’s for sure. I mean, he puts up with me! He also has been dealing with really a really work situation but manages to not take it out on anyone and always be upbeat and present.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The world’s. Donald Trump’s. Certain people on Facebook.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Sadie’s daycare. Having to buy two new cars this year after mine got rear ended and Dave’s caught on fire. (Seriously.)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My friend Annie’s wedding. Some great things at work.

16. What song will always remind you of 2015?
Stitches by Sean Mendes

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
b) thinner or fatter?
c) richer or poorer?
a) Sadder I think
b) Meh – about the same. Starting to gain back the weight I lost on the 21 Day Fix.
c) About the same

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Being present. Going to the movies more. Bringing breakfast/lunch/coffee to work more regularly.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Stressing over the unavoidable. Procrastinating.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With just Dave and Sadie. It was very laid back and low key and we decided around 1pm to leave the house, got some Starbucks and went bowling! So much fun.

21. Did you fall in love in 2015?
Does it count if I still love Dave and Sadie?

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Project Runway, Orange is the New Black, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, ANTM (RIP), I feel like there are more that I’m forgetting.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No. Hate is a strong word. Well, Donald Trump?

24. What was the best book you read?
Ooooh I’d have to say Girl on the Train. I actually listened to it as an audiobook and it was SO GOOD.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ithink 2015 was the first year that I actually enjoyed music by Taylor Swift.

26. What did you want and get?
The continuation of a great job that appreciates me. A happy, healthy family.

27. What did you want and not get?
I don’t think there was really anything that I wanted and didn’t get. I’m pretty lucky in that way.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I was blown away by Kingsman with Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson. It was entertaining, action packed and ridiculously funny.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32 (gross) and had a really nice, relaxing day! We went to the beach and didn’t really do anything of importance, which was wonderful. I don’t get to really relax and chill out that often, so it was a great birthday!

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having more time in the day. I feel so wiped out and by the time I get home, spend time with Sadie before she goes to bed and then have only a couple of hours left before I go to bed I feel like I can never really get anything done. Or I just want to unwind and so I push things off.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?
Comfy cozy. I work in a casual environment and so while I try to look cute, I definitely don’t wear anything uncomfortable for the sake of fashion!

32. What kept you sane?
Dave and my work team.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Fancy? I mean I’m always on the Ryan Reynolds boat…

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The trend and rise of mass shootings.

35. Who did you miss?
Some of my friends who are far away or I don’t get to see too often.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
Did I meet anyone new this year? I really have no idea.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.
Don’t be afraid to admit when you have a problem, or are having problems. Ever since I acknowledged that I have anxiety I think Dave understands more of what I go through at times, which makes our relationship better. Be open. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind, or also say that you don’t know the answer to something.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Not sure there is one to sum up 2015, but I’d like for this one to begin 2016, in the way I want to live and lead my life:

If this life is one act
Why do we lay all these traps
We put them right in our path
When we just wanna be free

I will not waste my days
Making up all kinds of ways
To worry ’bout all the things
That will not happen to me

So I just let go
Of what I know I don’t know
And I know I only do this by

Living in the moment
Living my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
With peace in my soul
Wherever I’m going,
I’m already home
Living in the moment

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here’s to being happy, healthy and leading a uniquely you life.

  1. Dave’s car caught fire? Yikes.

I would love more time in the day as well. It’s so hard to get everything done after getting home from work!

    Happy NYE!
