A question I get a lot since I started 21 Day Fix is, “Why Beachbody?” Or I’ll often get statements that are almost like sharp little barbs, attacking me with, “It’s all a gimmick!”, “Why can’t you just watch what you eat/Go to the gym?”, or my favorite “Are you nuts? You don’t need to work out!”

Let’s address these, shall we? Why Beachbody? Because it worked for me. That’s really all the reason I need to give! But I love the products, I believe in the brand and I’m enjoying myself so far, so why not?

IMG_0276Is it a gimmick? You know what, maybe it is. But it works. Dave has done P90X and P90x3 to varying degrees of success and I can proudly stand behind the statement that the 21 Day Fix changed our eating habits and got us back into shape. To date, I’m down about 8 pounds (and working to get some hot MUSCLES) and Dave is down 22 pounds and feeling stronger and better than he has in a long time. And honestly at first I saw the color containers everywhere and thought it was BS. But it really trained us on portion control and the right amounts of food to eat (veggies, fruits, carbs, proteins etc).

And then there are the Shakeology haters. Hate away! You do you, I’ll do me. 😉 Shakeology was another thing I didn’t get at first, but when I bought the challenge pack, I figured I’d try it for a month and then cancel it. Well now I’m addicted. It makes me feel great! Besides filling me up for breakfast or even a snack, I swear my skin is better, my teeth seem whiter and my nails are stronger and longer. WOO!

Why can’t I just watch what I eat/go to the gym? To sum it up in one word – willpower. I don’t have it without a program. I also don’t have the time to go to the gym and I do much better with a short workout in my own home than left up to my own devices at the gym. And yes I know there are classes I can take at gyms, but I also hate looking like a fool in front of people so I often shy away from going. As for my eating habits – I’m a grazer. I will eat constantly throughout the day, and the 21 Day Fix meal plan has really taught me how to control my grazing and eat the right things.

I blogged about this years ago, but let’s reiterate. “You don’t need to work out!” This doesn’t always come across as a nice comment.  You may think you’re being nice, but if the person you’re saying it to is sensitive about their appearance/body and is trying to improve themselves, you’re not being helpful. Skinny does NOT equal in shapeI’ve always been thin, but I definitely was not in shape. (More so this past year than previous years, but irregardless.) I’m sick of people assuming that they equal the same thing. THEY DON’T! I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was “skinny shamed” or anything, but it’s just an annoying to hear over and over again.

If you’re thinking about doing a Beachbody program or you don’t want to believe the hype, that’s fine! There’s a program out there for everyone or if you’re satisfied with your current gym routine and diet – more power to you! Research is everything and you need to do what’s best for YOU and your health and body.

What’s your current workout routine/meal plan?

  1. As you know, I did JennyCraig for about 3 years. I lost 80lbs. I get all of the time “it’s all processed food” or “it’s not healthy”. My response is “it’s healthier then being extremely overweight”. To each their own!

  2. I disagree on it being a gimmick. It is based on reality. We know that we should be watching portions but that doesn’t come easy for me. I am enjoying the 21 day fix so far. You’ve been a great guide and your enthusiasm is contagious. Keep it up! You’re doing great and I can’t wait to tell you about my results!

  3. Can you blog a bit more about Shakeology? I did a breakfast shake for a while with a trainer before my wedding and I was an irritable mess because I was always hungry.
