Mommy Update: Two Weeks Postpartum

Since I never did a 38 or 40 weeks pregnant update, I figured doing a two weeks postpartum update was the way to go. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I promise, I’ll have other stuff to write about other than the baby, when you know, I’m actually doing stuff outside of the house and that doesn’t revolve around her. I’ll give you a cute picture of Sadie at the end to tide you over, okay? Everyone loves a cute baby! CUTE BABY!!!!!!!!

Total weight loss: I was about 150ish around the time Sadie was born, and now I’m down to about 125. I can’t believe I’ve lost all that weight in two weeks! I think a LOT of it was water weight, and since I was carrying all in the front, a lot of the weight went with the baby. Also, breastfeeding = major calorie loss! WIN.

How big is baby?:The little peanut clocked in at her last pediatrician visit at 6lbs 8oz. I was THRILLED to hear that because she was down almost a pound from her birth weight at her first visit, so it was reassuring to know that she gained it all back and then some.

Clothes: I’ve been mainly hanging out in lounge pants and tank tops/cardigans, but I actually shoved myself into some pre-pregnancy jeans today, and put together a semi normal looking outfit! I only went to Target, but it felt good to be dressed like a human being again.

Stretch marks?: I made it through without any stretch marks on my stomach! My chest though, well that’s a different story.

Sleep: It really depends on the night. We stopped waking Sadie up to eat when she gained the weight back, and on a good night she wakes up twice. On a bad night, it could be three or more times, and then it takes her a long time to be ready to be put back down. After I feed her I lay her on my chest and she falls back asleep, and then I put her back in the bassinet.ย  Usually this takes up to 15 minutes after a feeding, but sometimes its longer. I also take her into the living room, since Dave is still working, he needs his sleep.

Food cravings: Yes, you still get cravings post pregnancy! At least I do. Double Stuf Oreos are still high on the list, and I’ve been chowing down on ice cream like crazy! Also lots of decaf coffee. My Keurig has been getting a workout! I know I can drink caffeinated coffee now, but I don’t really “need” it, so I’m not drinking it yet.

Belly button in or out: I refer to my belly button area as “the cavern”. It’s deep. It’s gross. I’m hoping it goes back to normal, at least somewhat. And because I’m honest, here’s a shot of my two weeks postpartum stomach. Apparently the linea nigra (the dark line) fades over time. I sure hope so!

What I miss: Being able to just up and leave the house without worrying when she’s last eaten, what we have in the diaper bag, and if she’ll start crying.

What Iโ€™m looking forward to: Eventually moving into our freaking house. (Yes, our close date still hasn’t happened yet. Yes, I’m bitter.) Introducing Sadie to a bottle in another week or so, so Dave can take care of some feedings.

Milestone: She’s two weeks old today!ย  AHHH!!!!!

Other random thoughts: We’re taking her for a sonogram today, to have her sacral dimple checked out. Both the hospital and our pediatrician have said that it is nothing, but just to be safe, they wanted to have it checked out to be sure. So I’m not worried, but hoping for an immediate all clear after the sono.

Also, some days are great, and I feel like an awesome parent. And then she can have a bad day where she’s fussy and not napping, and I wind up crying on the floor with Dave having to pick me up. ๐Ÿ™ Its only been two weeks, so I know it’ll get easier, but wow, it’s definitely a whole new experience.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

And as promised – CUTE BABY PICTURE!!!

  1. She’s so cute! Glad you’re both doing well!

You look great! I’m impressed you left the house to go to Target 2 weeks post partum. All I did at that time was go for walks!

My line took like 8 months to go away, but it finally did! I have stretchmarks on my chest too, also my stomach and one hip. No more bikinis for me ๐Ÿ˜›

  2. Juliet has a sacral dimple too. It’s closed and nothing to worry about. Sometimes poop gets stuck in there so there’s some extra wiping involved. I actually didn’t even know she had one until right before she was discharged!

And go you for getting into jeans 2 weeks post partum. I’m nearing 9 months post partum and only today decided to stuff myself into my pre-pregnancy fat jeans!

  3. You look fantastic (and so does she!) And isn’t the “nursing workout” amazing? I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but for me, Meeka sucked any and all extra weight off as she nursed, and very quickly too! (So, if it happens that way for you, too – YAY! But also – be careful. I lost a bit TOO much weight for awhile there, which, um, not a *real* problem, but make sure you’re eating enough since you’re still feeding two! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Damn you look great! Two weeks post partum and I still looked 5 months pregnant. I blame the Csection though, apparently it takes longer to lose the weight with a CS a lot of times. And you’re right about still having cravings, I blame breastfeeding, I’m ALWAYS hungry because of it. Sadie is super cute!

  5. You look amazing!!! I hope I’m just as lucky in the nursing/weight-loss department.

  6. your close date WILL come! mine fiiiinally did and it was nerve wracking/frustrating/hell up through the last moment (had to have a new set of papers faxed during escrow signing!) but it will be so worth it! i hope the process finishes soon for you!! so happy for you!

  7. She’s so very cute. You’re doing an awesome job!

  8. seriously how has she been here two weeks already! and sounds like you guys are adjusting quite well to parenthood, even with the crying and fussiness (from you and Sadie, haha) sounds like it’s all working out well and I’m just so happy for you guys.

also, stop it with her cuteness. those little hands slay me.

  9. Gah, she’s so cute!

    xox

  10. Love those chubby cheeks – and those lips are precious! You’re doing a wonderful job with your weight loss ๐Ÿ™‚ I couldn’t fit into pre-pregnancy jeans till Joe was 2 months old, but I’m pretty sure that’s because I was s-t-a-r-v-i-n-g during those first 8 weeks of breastfeeding and ate a lot, ha ha! I read some of your other comments and I’m glad that the sono went well. I’m sure that’s a huge relief ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. You’re looking amazing, Lacey! Absolutely amazing.
And that baby and her cute little lips. LOVE! Everytime friends (either online or in person) have a baby, makes me start wondering if we should start thinking about starting a family (just kind of scared to, ugh!).

  12. Congratulations! She is beautiful! And you look wonderful! I love the honesty here….

  13. Lacey!

    She is so cute! ๐Ÿ™‚

I had stretch marks like WOAH on my boobs, but they went away after a while. So, there is hope! (Though, my boobs will never be the same again, let’s be honest. Ha.)

And it’s hard at the beginning – not being able to leave for more than 2 hours at a time without thinking about where/when you’ll be able to nurse. It does get better. ๐Ÿ™‚ You are an awesome mom! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Happy first mother’s day!

  14. Wow you look fantastic after only two weeks!!!

I hope your closing happens soon. That has got to be really frustrating!!

  15. If I didn’t adore you, I might hate you. I never had linea negra, but I’ve got crazy stretch marks on my belly from Moo! I’ve lost about 20 lbs, and only gained 25 from pre-pregnancy, but I still don’t fit in my pre-pregnancy jeans. Crap. Sundresses FTW!

  16. Oh, I’m just in love with her! She’s so adorable. Totally jealous that you’ve had a baby to hold and snuggle with for over two weeks and my kid is still hanging out in my belly. Hope you’re compiling a list of all the wonderful tips/tricks/advice you’ve learned to pass on to me and other new moms!

  17. Ahhhhh. BABY IS CUUUUUTE! You look great! Isn’t the human body an amazing thing? Two weeks ago, ginormous and now an adorable mama. I hope your bellybutton recovers. Mine never has – it is a saggy wrinkly nightmare, lol. I hope you’re enjoying this squishy time with your newborn. I just wrote a post last night about some anxiety I had when my little girl was 3 weeks old. Hope you’re spared those types of feelings!
