For the love of God, WHERE is the remote?

A few weeks ago I wrote about the shows that I love to watch on TV, but was a bit late to the party on. (This now includes Downton Abbey – looooove!)  But with the shows that I’ve come to love, there are also a slew of shows that I loaattheeee.  And I’ll admit, there are some shows I dislike that I haven’t watched a single episode of, so yes, my opinion is completely baseless.  And in some cases, I don’t have a real reason to why I don’t like the show – deal.

Ready?
First up – Seinfeld.  When Seinfeld was like, the biggest show EVER, I remember sitting in our living room watching it with my parents.  And laughing.  And then it got dumb.  And the series finale ruined it for me (and I think everyone else in America).  Now? I can’t even watch it when its on in syndication.  All of the characters annoy me.  The opening music annoys me.  And now I don’t think the characters are even funny, but just dumb.
Closely tied to that one is Curb Your Enthusiasm. It’s not surprising that I don’t like the show since Larry David was behind Seinfeld, but I also have a deep-seeded hatred of Larry David himself. He’s just so ANNOYING! Ughh everything about that man irks me.  Especially his whiny, whiny voice. If he had his voice box removed, I think it would be better for everyone.
Let’s talk about Two and a Half Men. Or let’s not, because it’s horrible. With Charlie Sheen, without Charlie Sheen, naked Ashton Kutcher… it’s just not funny. Wait – the kid is pretty funny, and I like Jon Cryer as a general rule, but that’s about it. Also – “Mennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.” SHUT UP.  Worst segway to commercials ever.
Breaking Bad is another one. I know, I know. Everyone LOVES Breaking Bad. I just… don’t. Dave got into it and it just bored the hell out of me. No offense to Brian Cranston, because he’s awesome, but I just can’t deal with the show. Drugs, gang wars, more drugs, etc.  You’d think I’d be riveted, but I was booored.

Shows that receive an honorable mention? (Here’s where I get the “hate comments”.) 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation. Okay OKAY! Do you have it out of your system yet? I know, they’re brilliant, hilarious, etc. But I just don’t care for them. There’s something about that type of humor that doesn’t a) make me laugh and b) sit well with me. I can’t fully explain it, but I get no pleasure from watching those shows.

What TV show can’t you stand? And don’t yell at me too much about 30 Rock/Parks and Rec, pretty please??

  1. Oh I love this. I don’t mind Seinfield (but never really watch it, either) but the music IS terrible. Ugh, just thinking about it annoys me. Curb Your Enthusiasm is not funny. At all. Two & A Half Men is SO DUMB!!!!!!! Never seen Breaking Bad. I like Parks and Recreation mostly bc I am obsessed with Aziz Ansari.

  2. I do enjoy Seinfeld every so often, but I agree with you on all the rest–except Parks and Rec. It took me a few episodes to get on board, (Just like The Office) but now I love it (ditto, The Office). I can not, for the life of me, get into 30 Rock. I want to like it, I do, I just….don’t.

  3. I absolutely hate Arrested Development. People have actually gasped out loud when I’ve told them that, but I can’t stand that show. Every single character annoys me.

  4. Here, all this time, I thought I was alone. The second I hear the Seinfeld music I get annoyed. I can’t bring myself to watch even one full episode of 2.5 Men, and Breaking Bad makes me nauseous….and I really wanted to like that one.

But I do have to draw the line at Curb Your Enthusiasm….love that one.

  5. I never got hooked on 30 Rock, it’s just not my type of humor. Shrug. I don’t really feel like I’m missing out (except when I read Bossypants and, apparently, 1/3 of her book is talking about this or that hilarious moment on 30 Rock and I’m supposed to laugh with her…but I didn’t get it.)

    xox

  6. OMG. I hear that intro to Seinfeld come on and my skin CRAWLS…. I LOATHE that show. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a full episode. I’ve seen a small portion of both 30 Rock and Parks & Rec, but for the same reason I don’t care for the Office (GASP, get over it people) I don’t like either of those shows. It’s the way it’s filmed, the humor, I just don’t GET it. Also, I feel like the office was so hyped up even by the time I sat down to watch ONE episode I was just let down. I don’t do well with that kind of humor. I prefer punchy, witty, sharp, and intellectual humor (not to come off as a pompous jackass)

  7. I’m a traitor to my generation but I can’t stand Friends. When all I can find on TV is Friends or Seinfield – it’s time to go to bed!

  8. I never “got” Seinfeld or Two and a Half Men. One show that I thought I was sure to hate is Smash, but sadly I kind of like it. Ugh, I hate that I do.

    • HAHAHA. I don’t like Smash either, but that’s because I dislike Katherine McPhee. I also almost wrote “Katherine McPee” and that seems fitting as well. 😉

  9. Ha ha. I have always hated Seinfeld and Curb- they are the most annoying shows ever! You can add Two and a Half Men, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, the Voice, etc. to popular shows I have never (and will never) watch.

But I do have to disagree with you on Breaking Bad, 30 Rock and Parks and Rec. They are all awesome.

But to each their own. 🙂

  10. OMG. Yes. Agreeeeeeeeeeee to the nth degree.

Breaking Bad – I don’t mind it. Have watched a couple eps, though wouldn’t go out of my way.

30 Rock – same. I’m not a huge fan of that kind of humour.

Parks and Recreation – have only seen the ads, which are kind of funny but again, not really my thing.

  11. “30 Rock” is one of the only sitcoms that I DO like. I can’t stand “Arrested Development,” “Mad Men,” “Friends,” “Breaking Bad,” or “Curb Your Enthusiasm” – among many, many others.

  12. Okay,…so I agree with you about all of ’em except for one which made me gasp in horror, because I honestly live for this show, and no show ever has affected me the way this one has. Ever. But I guess it helps that in my life working in a 5am bar most of it, I have been around a lot of people like the characters on this show, so it has a very special place in my heart, but I dislike ALL the shows you named EXCEPT for Breaking Bad. That is the best TV I have ever seen, but to each his/her own on what they like. Jesse Pinkman is MY guy, I love that character, and even tho I have not ever done drugs,(or have barely drank in my life,) I totally relate to him. I don’t know what it is, but THAT show is the KING OF ALL TV to me. Repeat,-to me. Just telling ya.

  13. Um, I totally 100% agree with you. TOTALLY. These are all on my hate/dislike list as well. There’s a lot of series’ I don’t like… Almost anything that’s a “girly show,” I dislike. Or just don’t get. It’s not that I’m not girly… The humor just doesn’t capture my attention. Like Gilmore Girls. (I know. People love this show – I just don’t.) I have never ever watch 7th Heaven, Dawson’s Creek or any of those. I hear people talk about them always, but again, never an interest.

Soap operas also hold no interest. Also, I love me some reality TV… Of the Myth Busters/Dirty Jobs/Pawn Stars/Storage Wars/Parking Wars/etc. kind… I can’t stand any of the others. Amazing Race held my interest for years, but now it’s just… Meh. It’s been going on for a long, long time and honestly, I love the idea of traveling and get serious wanderlust so it’s like watching a show based around amazing this or that I can’t have right now!

I also have a seriously hard time with any shows where animals eat other animals, die or get killed. The only show I could tolerate (and love) like that was Big Cat Diary!

NOW, onto shows I *do* love… True Blood, The Big Bang Theory, all of the “reality” shows mentioned above (along with Hoarders, My Strange Addiction, etc… I just love those. Don’t know why!) My Cat from Hell, Cats 101, Dogs 101, Friends, Malcolm in the Middle, Still Standing, King of The Hill, South Park, Tosh.0 and so many more. Yeah, I have a lot!

    Long comment is long. Sorry!

  14. Aileen Johnston says

Have to say that I agree with you on the shows that are shown over here in the UK apart from 2.5 men. Dont like it now with Ashton but I did like it with Charlie Sheen. Was always good for a hungover Sunday! A series I never got into but everyone else LOVED in the UK was The Office. Could be because I can’t stand Ricky Gervais but just never saw the appeal. We also have a show here called Gavin and Stacey (not sure if you can watch it in the states) and I can sit through an episode or 2 if need be and there are some funny bits but everyone in the UK thought it was the most amazing piece of television ever but I never really saw the appeal! One show I utterly love (but again I think it is just for the UK) is Outnumbered. Very british humour but if it is ever shown in the states I urge all parents to watch it!

  15. I do not understand the humor behind 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, OR The Office. They all just make me feel uncomfortable and I rarely find myself laughing. Glad I am not alone!

I do like Seinfeld though 🙂

  16. Oh, I hate Larry David too. Just the thought of him is like nails on a chalkboard. I cannot stand his show. My husband thinks it’s funny and I just cringe. Ugh!

  17. I CANNOT HANDLE Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men, or Curb Your Enthusiasm. Or Everybody Loves Raymond. Or half of CBS’s lineup for the past 15 years or so (exceptions: Big Bang Theory, HIMYM, King of Queens). I’d rather watch paint dry than look at Seinfeld’s obnoxious face!

  18. I loved Seinfeld but it was funnier when I watched the odd episode on tv than when i got the dvds of it. In the UK, they tend to take big shows from the US and ruin them by putting them in stupid timeslots so I hardly ever saw Seinfeld (The BBC did the same with How I Met Your Mother , actually), and when I did I thought it was hilarious. Watching it all at once? Not so much. I do still think it’s funny though. I’ve never got into Curb Your Enthusiasm either, and 30 Rock is OKAY but it’s not what other people in the blogosphere hyped it up to be.

    Personally, I HATED 24…

  19. Breaking Bad and 30 Rock. Awesome. You must keep trying to get into Breaking Bad. It just gets BETTER AND BETTER. 30 Rock is slowly heading down hill, but its awesome.
