See ya 2011!! Looking forward to 2012

Our last NYE celebration before Baby Bean

Hope everyone had a fun and safe night ringing in the new year. We went out to dinner with a bunch of friends, which is always interesting when you’re one of two sober people in a group of 12. 😉 Can’t really complain though – good food, good friends, good times. To wrap up 2011 and tie a neat little bow around it, I thought I’d use this helpful little meme (still hate that word) that’s been floating around the blogosphere.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Decided to get preggers. 🙂 Stayed at an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic, swam with a dolphin. Spun out on on the highway. 🙁

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Yeah no. My resolutions from last year were to a) Be a cleaner, more organized person FAIL. b) Be more active FAIL and c) cross at least 12 things off my Life List Semi FAIL. I crossed off a few things from the Life List, but definitely not in a purposeful way. More like “Oh yeah I did that!” I guess that sort of counts?

My resolution for this year? Take pregnancy in stride, and when the time is finally here, be a good mommy.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Quite a few!! My sister-in-law’s both had babies, bringing my nephew count up to 4. (One was born in December of 2010, but I’m counting him.) A bunch of our friends and family also had babies, and so did Miriam and a few other blogger friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Dominican Republic.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Some sense of stability with certain things going on in our life right now.

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 28 – the day I found out I was pregnant!!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I don’t know if getting pregnant can be listed as an achievement… but that’s pretty much my biggest milestone!

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being better at remembering family member’s birthdays/milestones. Blogging.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope. Fit as a fiddle!!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Our front loading, stackable washer and dryer. You KNOW you’re an adult when that’s your best purchase of the year.

12. Where did most of your money go?
Who the hell knows.  Restaurants?  New furniture?  It’s definitely not in my bank account.

13. What did you get really excited about?
Moving into our new apartment (which I STILL haven’t shared pictures of – shameful), getting pregnant (I sound like a broken record), my new nephews, finding out the sex of Baby Bean.

14. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Weird, but the first song to come to mind is “Dog Days are Over” by Florence + the Machine.

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder? Happier. I don’t recall 2010 being particularly sad, but there was more sadness overall than there was this past year.
– thinner or fatter? Fatter. I’m blaming Baby Bean!
– richer or poorer? Probably poorer. But it’s all good.

16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Stressing myself out and being anxious.

18. How did you spend Christmas?
Christmas Eve was spent at my mother-in-law’s house, and then Dave and I opened gifts while listening to a Charlie Brown Christmas on Spotify. Best Christmas CD ever. Christmas Day was spent with family at my sister-in-law Adrienne’s house. Good thing about me being Jewish is that we never have to choose where to be on Christmas!

And for Hanukkah, we did it a little late, but we celebrated with delicious dinner at my parent’s house – and my mom treated me to a much needed facial.

19. What was your favorite TV program?
Arrested Development. The new episodes need to start happening NOW.

20. What were your favorite books of the year?
The Hunger Games trilogy hands down. Also Sarah’s Key.

21. What was your favorite music from this year?

Florence + the Machine – Ceremonials, Foster the People – Torches, Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Magic of Youth, Bayside – Killing Time.

22. What were your favorite films of the year?
We really didn’t see a lot of movies. The Muppet Movie was awesome… and The Help.  And the last Harry Potter movie, obvs.

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was in Vermont with Dave’s family. We hung out by the pool during the day, and went to Harpoon Brewery for dinner and a tour. I turned 28.

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Some of the issues that we’re facing going away.

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
If it’s comfy, I’ll wear it.

26. What kept you sane?

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.

The less you stress yourself out, the easier things become.

Also – Baby Bean says, Happy New Year!!

  1. I got a bit too excited about being named in question #3. It made me feel special. 🙂

    Here’s to an AWESOME 2012!

  2. Happy New Year!

  3. That baby bean picture is adorable. My ovaries squee’d!

Happy new year! Enjoy the pregnancy and before you know it, the bean will be here. 🙂
