It’s pronounced “Ah-gav-A”, not “Ah-giv”

That’s the conversation Dave had with the supermarket cashier when purchasing agave nectar for this recipe.  She also had no idea what it was, and thought it was some sort of salad dressing.  Nice.

I had purchased one of those little recipe booklets that sit on the racks by the grocery store checkout.  Impulse buy, but a lot of the recipes looked great! One of the selling points was that they had a page of different granola recipes, and I became an even better wife when I woke up early one day (well, I couldn’t sleep) and made Dave some Cherry-Lime Granola.  And because I love pictures, here’s a step-by-step of how to make your own!

– Gather your ingredients

– Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a large bowl, combine oats and almonds.

– In a small saucepan, combine butter, agave nectar, lime zest and juice, and salt over medium. Cook, stirring occasionally, until butter melts, about 2 minutes. (Or, place ingredients in a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave until butter melts, 1 to 2 minutes; stir until combined.)

-Pour butter mixture over oat mixture and toss until oats and nuts are completely coated

-Transfer to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet and spread in an even layer

-Bake until oats are lightly golden, 30 to 35 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Let cool completely on sheet on a wire rack, 20 minutes, then stir in cherries or cranberries.

This? Was SO GOOD. Dave inhaled it, and I found myself reaching in and grabbing a handful every time I was in the kitchen. The great thing about the recipe is that it’s based on a master one, so you can sub out the different nuts and berries for a bunch of different granola varieties.

Full recipe found here. It sometimes pays to check out those little recipe booklets in your grocery store!

  1. Yum INDEED! Sadly, I’m allergic to cherries. I know, I know, THE HORROR…

  2. Ooh, that looks really good! Sadly, I don’t think you can get agave nectar down here. I might have to investigate some health food stores to see if I can track some down…

  3. I’ve always wanted to try to make my own granola, this looks delish!
