The Bayou, A Beer Sail, and the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze

What a weekend!!  I have a love/hate relationship with weekends that are so jammed packed with stuff – I love them because hello?? Awesomeness!!  But hate because by Sunday night, I don’t feel relaxed and ready for work in the least.  Wah wahhhhh.  FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!

Friday started off well – because I took the day off!!  WOO HOO!  I had all intentions of doing tons of chores, straightening my hair, etc.  But that did NOT happen.  It was more like, get up at 10, lay on the couch watching horrible TV, and then finally getting moving by 3pm.  Oh well.  I did make two batches of Spaghetti Pie, go food shopping for the week, and cross some other items off of my list.  Win?  We capped off the day by going out to dinner with my cousin and her boyfriend (who I met for the first time – I approve) at The Bayou.  The Bayou is an AMAZING Cajun restaurant about 20 mins away from our house that Dave and I have been going to, separately, for years!!  Very cool atmosphere, live bands all the time, hot sauces lining the walls, and DELICIOUS food.  My favorites are the Deep Fried Pickles and Alligator Sausage for appetizers, and the Skirt Steak Salad with their amazing homemade dressing for my entree.  The dressing is out of this world, it’s got basil and some other great tasting stuff in it – YUMMM.  We had a great meal, even though almost every beer I asked for at first – they were out of!!

Saturday we made use of a Groupon that we purchased a while ago, and did a Craft Beer Sail on the Clipper City ship! It was SUPER windy out, but we still lucked out that it wasn’t raining, and had a really good time on the boat, enjoying the beautiful views and drinking some great Brooklyn Brewery beers!

Sails and rigs and things

Luckily I didn’t get seasick at all (I sometimes do), and while the boat was packed with people, we weren’t too crowded.  And the beer was very good (as usual).

After the sail we ran to the Diamond District because two stones had fallen from my engagement ring in the past month.  NOT OK.  We dropped it off and they promised to fix the ring and check it over for free.  Hooray!  We get it back Wednesday, and I can’t wait, because even with my wedding band on, my finger feels naked!!!

That night it was time for Slow Cooked Shredded Chicken Tacos w/ Cilantro Lime Rice (that was sadly undercooked… I didn’t realize basmati rice takes a LOT longer than regular white rice!) with Allison and Hiram, the guy she’s been seeing, before heading off to the GREAT JACK O’LANTERN BLAZE at Van Cortlandt Manor.  Allison and I had really been looking forward to this, and it didn’t disappoint.  Imagine HUNDREDS of pumpkins set up all along a winding path set up in tons of different formations, designs, shapes, etc.  It was SO COOL!

There are a ton more pictures, I took almost 100! But I won’t post them all. I know how that can get boring. ๐Ÿ™‚ This was so awesome though. I’m glad I finally got to go – Dave and I have known about it for years and only decided to go now!!  Apparently they start setting up for this event in September, and there are only a few pumpkin carvers.  I can’t imagine how much work it must be!! I think this might become a yearly tradition for us – I think they change up the designs every year, so I’d love to see what else they can do to these pumpkins!!

Do you have any Halloween traditions in your town?  Also – stay tuned for a Halloween giveaway tomorrow!!

Holy crap those pumpkins are SERIOUS. And that beer sail looks insanely fun! I wish we did stuff like that here.

  4. I feel the same way about weekends. I love getting out and doing stuff, but hate that on Sunday I don't feel relaxed and rested like I would have if I did nothing all weekend. Such a dilemma!
