"Cheerio!!!" Or should I say "Dobriden!!"

I figured I’d start off with “Cheerio!”, but since we’re in Prague now, “Dobriden!” seemed more correct. ๐Ÿ™‚

London was a lot of fun, even though I had to work part of the time. Dave managed to amuse himself while I was stuck inside, and saw some things that I wouldn’t really mind missing, so that worked out for the both of us. While we were sightseeing together, we made sure to see Trafalgar Square, The National Portrait Gallery, Buckingham Palace, a ton of parks, The London Eye, Millennium Bridge, The Tower of London and Tower Bridge, and much more. I love the London Eye, but the Tower of London was probably one of my favorite places, mainly due to the HILARIOUS Beefeaters who act as your tour guides (otherwise known as a Yeomen Warder.) I was cracking up every two seconds on our tour, and I had no idea that it is an honor to become a Beefeater. You have to have something like 20 years experience in the Royal Military, and basically have to be asked, or recognized in a way, to become one. And they live at the Tower, they have housing that you can see as you walk around. Kind of insane, as its mere footsteps away from the Tower Green where famous beheadings took place! Talk about living right where history took place!

We also went to the London Dungeon, which is an attraction featuring all of the horrors that London history is known for, such as Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Todd, the plague, hangings, etc. It was fun, but I wouldn’t do it again. There were also two rides inside, but the “Boat Ride to Hell” broke down while we were there, and we didn’t do the Free Fall ride (have no idea what it was called, was supposed to be like a hanging or something) because Dave’s back went out the other day and we figured that probably wasn’t the best idea for him. (And I’m a puss who wouldn’t do it alone.)

We also had delicious Indian food at a place called Punjab, and had pints and pies (meat pies) at the Old Bank of England with the lovely Aly of Breathe Gently. It was amazing to meat Aly considering that we’ve been following each other’s blogs for YEARS. We had a fantastic time! And had some great food!

Sadly England lost to Germany in the World Cup while we were on our flight over from New York, so there were no matches to be watched. We did catch a glimpse of the Chile vs Brazil match, which was pretty entertaining due to the fans of Brazil who were watching with us.

Also, while I LOVE England, I am THRILLED to be in Prague for one main reason right now. Our hotel in London was shite. ๐Ÿ™‚ They didn’t have us booked for a “double room” at first, so Dave and I had to share a room with 2 twin beds. Fun, fun! Plus everything was just run down and not nice. The only nice thing was the proximity to Piccadilly Circus. We wound up moving to a room with a double bed on our last night there, but still, this room at the Hotel Fenix in Prague is much, MUCH nicer. I guess I cant complain about our old digs though, considering my job paid for it!

AND it’s my 27th birthday today!!! YAY!!!!! It was fun saying it was my birthday at 12am Prague time, only to be reminded by Dave that it wasn’t my birthday in the US yet, since they’re 6 hours behind. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I did get birthday cards from both my parents and Dave this morning, that Dave had been carrying with him since we left. Aww. I’m impressed that the remembered to buy a card for me before we left!! Anyway, happy birthday to me!!!!!

Here are some pictures I snapped in London with my fancy camera. Enjoy!!

  3. Happy Bday!

You guys fit a TON in during your time in London. A year ago we were in London so it was fun to see your pics. We also did the Tower of London which was hilarious. My brother touched the guide and he FLIPPED out–they take their jobs very seriously!

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Your new camera (aka you guys) take amazing pictures. Love that you had nice weather, woohoo!

The Beefeaters are fantastic. I've been three times in two and a half years, and I've been lucky enough to get the same guy each time. I bet he thinks I'm stalking him. But he's just so good! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy travels. ๐Ÿ˜€ Don't forget, if you're back before December, we have a spare mattress! x

  9. Cute! I think that one shabby hotel is part of the quintessential European experience anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ Looks like you are having a ball.
Have a wonderful birthday! Hope you do something special (as if being in Europe on your honeymoon isn't special enough ๐Ÿ™‚ ) xo

  10. looks like a great trip so far, love the pictures. happy birthday one more time! ๐Ÿ™‚

    First Happy Birthday!

Second, I loved hearing about your time in London. I've never been on the London Eye. Its definitely something I need to do when I'm there. But last time I was in London I did go to the London Dungeon. We were the only Americans on our tour, so the tour guide flirted with my friend and I and gave us a hard time. But that was really the best part of the tour.

Thanks for checking in with an update, and have a great time in Prague!

I almost ate at the exact same Indian restaurant when I was in London last year! I just couldn't find it. Boo.

Happy birthday Lacey. I'm glad your birthday/honeymoon trip is going well. =)

  18. I know I'm going through these posts BACKWARDS but that's what I get for not opening my reader in a month. (Therefore, I'm just going straight to your blog!)

Loved your pictures!! I wish I had made it to the Tower of London, really cool story about the tour guides there. I only spent 3 days in London and barely saw anything but what I did see was awesome! Looks like you had fun, even if you had to work.
